Can’t find what you’re looking for here? Well, here are some of my most commonly visited sites. Plenty of places to help you whether you are in search of news, PC education, software and just something to keep you from being bored at work.
Download.com – One of the largest collections of downloadable software on the Internet. Everything from anti-virus software to photo editors to video games. Download.com features a good search engine that lets you limit the search results for programs to specific operating systems, those for mobile devices or just programs that are free (of which there are plenty!). Weekly articles let you know about the newest programs to come out and the user/editor reviews let you know which are worth downloading and which are better left alone. Also, this is a very trust-worthy site, so you don’t have to worry about downloading any software that is going to hijack your system!
TWiT Netcast Network – You might remember Leo Laporte from his days as the host of Call For Help & The Screen Savers on TechTV or from his current job as host of The Tech Guy, his nationally syndicated radio show. The TWiT Netcast (Podcast) Network is his side project and it is a wonderful collection of weekly podcasts for those interested in tech! Whether you are a beginner looking to learn how to use your PC better or if you are a more advanced user trying to learn the ins-and-outs of PC security, you should find something useful each week. Definitely worth checking out!
Engadget – As it is probably pretty clear, Engadget is a site dedicated to covering all the “gadget” news. Updated continuously throughout the day, you’ll find plenty of news and reviews on all the latest computers, mp3 players, televisions, etc. This is a site I visit way too much throughout the day.
Digg – Digg has really jumped in popularity in the past year. Basically, it is a news site without reporters. Users submit links to things they find interesting on other sites and the other users vote on the most interesting ones. The submissions with the most votes make it to the top. Sometimes its a news story, while other times it just a funny picture or video. Either way, you can spend plenty of time entertaining yourself here. This is another site I surf to far to often while at work.
Google – What else do I need to say? If you need to find something, just Google it.
YouTube – If you are sitting there wondering, “How can I waste a bunch of time?” Well, here is your answer. In case you haven’t heard of it, YouTube is a user-submitted video site. Looking for videos of funny cats? Here you are. Feel the need to watch people falling down? They have that too. It’s not all stupidity though. There are clips from your favorite TV shows, documentaries, as well as videos from a YouTube sponsored presidential candidate debate. Although, I still use it mostly for watching people do stupid stuff.
